What is Alu Kangmet?

A spicy side dish made using potatoes, flavored with red chilies, is Alu Kangmet. It is such a simple recipe that I thought twice before putting it here. It is served with Tan Ngang, which is a puri made with all-purpose flour (maida). The dish gets the heat from dry red chilies as well as mustard oil. It can pep up any meal in a few minutes and with a handful of ingredients. I like to make sandwiches with the stuffing of alu kangmet and believe me, they taste divine.

Let’s talk about the ingredients for Alu Kangmet Recipe

Potato recipes are so versatile. Every kitchen has its own potato recipe. There are a number of starters using potato, snacks made with potatoes, side dishes as well as gravies made using potatoes. This one is such a simple dish. It calls for just 4 ingredients in total. Here is all you need:

Boiled Potatoes: Unlike most of the side dishes using potatoes, boiled potatoes are mashed to make this side dish.

Red chilies: Dry whole red chilies are required. This is the main flavoring agent. You can adjust the quantity as per your choice.

Oil: Mustard oil adds its flavor and heat to alu kangmet. However, you can use regular cooking oil if you want.

Onions: I have not used onions for the recipe. You can also use chopped onions. Although I would not recommend that.

Hi! I am CA Vini Mehta. A Chartered Accountant by profession, a food blogger by passion! First of all, I would like to thank you for stopping by at Viniscookbook, I hope you have a good time. Here, yo...u will find the recipes which have been tried, at times re-tried in my kitchen and relished on the dining table. I am mother of two kids and the wife of a person with a high and selective taste sense, so basically anything, before finding its place on the blog, has many levels to cross and clear. This journey started a couple of years back. Before that I was making the most usual kind of food. The only experiment used to be asking my mother how to make something new or different☺. Then, one day, I tried a recipe for butter cookies. And they did not get to go in the container as they were over before I could store them. That day I was introduced to the joy of experimenting with recipes. And I loved everything else that followed especially garnishing and photographing food. I am still not well versed with the photography dos and don’ts but I love to experiment and learn, be it photography or cooking. Hope you too enjoy this journey as much as I do☺! Stay healthy, stay tuned!.
