Coleslaw Sandwich Recipe is bread slices packed with coleslaw salad. Coleslaw salad is a combination of cabbage, carrot and a dressing. The dressing could be mayonnaise dressing or sour cream dressing or buttermilk dressing.
I have gone for the classic coleslaw salad for the sandwich consisting of cabbage, carrot and mayonnaise dressing. You can use red cabbage or red and green both. You can add other vegetables such as capsicum, onions, sweet corn, peas etc. For the flavouring, you can add oregano, thyme, chilli flakes etc. You can also add some cheese spread or a cheese slice. I have made, as the name suggests a Classic Coleslaw Sandwich Recipe and therefore skipped the innovation part.
If you think that coleslaw has given you enough choices… wait. My husband once prepared a coleslaw sandwich for my daughter. And she called it was the yummiest she has ever had. I ignored because I was jealous. However, when I tasted it, I said the same. The only difference in the sandwich made by me and the one made by my husband was that he had grilled it. Yes as such coleslaw club sandwich is not grilled but since the bread was one day old he decided to grill it and thereafter we always grill our coleslaw sandwich, even if the bread is fresh. Coleslaw nutrition is very healthy.

Serving 4 sandwiches
Coleslaw Sandwich Ingredients
- 8 bread slices, sides trimmed
- 4 tsp butter, at room temperature
- 3/4 cup shredded cabbage
- 3/4 cup shredded carrot
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- Pinch of salt
- 1 tsp vinegar
- 1/2 tsp sugar
How to Make Coleslaw Sandwich
1. Prepare the coleslaw salad
In a bowl add 3/4 cup shredded cabbage, 3/4 cup shredded carrot, 1/2 cup mayonnaise, a pinch of salt, 1/4 tsp sugar and 1 tsp vinegar.
Tip: Do not grate the cabbage. Use shredded cabbage for a crunchy coleslaw. For carrot, you can either cut them thin as matchsticks or shred them thick and long using a food processor or grater.
2. Butter bread slices
Apply butter on the bread slices.
Tip: Buttering the slices prevents the sandwich from getting soggy.
3. Apply coleslaw salad
Take approximately 1/4 cup coleslaw salad and spread on the bread slice. Cover with another bread slice. Cut diagonally or horizontally or vertically 😉
4. Bon appétit
For best results chill the sandwiches for an hour before serving. You can also grill the sandwiches if you want to have the best coleslaw, though they won’t be the classics.
