What is Kordoi?

Savoury Kordoi Recipe is an Assamese snack made using whole wheat flour, flavoured with carom seeds, cumin seeds, onions, etc. It is a great snack for kids as it is made with the whole wheat flour and it is given an interesting shape which is sure to tempt the little ones. It also makes for a healthy breakfast. I love to serve it as an evening snack with a cup of chai.

Kordoi is a whole wheat healthy snack. It doesn’t call for too many ingredients. All you need is

Whole wheat flour/atta: This Indian snack is prepared with whole wheat, unlike other snack recipes which call for all-purpose flour.

Flavors: It has been flavoured with 2 ingredients commonly used to flavor the Indian snacks or homemade snacks such as mathri, sakhein; i.e. cumin seeds, carom seeds etc. Apart from these onions and carrot have also been used. Make sure to finely chop the onions.

How to make Savoury Kordoi Recipe ?

1.This recipe makes 6-8 kordoi.

2.In a mixing bowl add ½ cup whole wheat flour, 2 tbsp finely chopped onions, 2 tbsp grated carrots, ½ tsp carom seeds (ajwain), ½ tsp cumin seeds (jeera), salt to taste and ¼ tsp turmeric powder.

3.Next goes in 2 tsp hot oil.

4.Mix using a spoon or fingers. Take care hot oil has been added.

5.Use water to make a semi soft dough.

6.Divide into 6-8 portion. Shape into balls and flatten. Meanwhile heat enough oil for frying.

7.Roll into approximately 3 inches diameter. Make cuts leaving 1 cm on the circumference.

8.Roll it and seal the edges.

9.Put in hot oil.

10.Fry on a low flame till golden brown from all the sides.

11.Serve at room temperature. Bon appetit!
