Okay so everything said and done, I used the following ingredients and was totally pleased with the outcome. So I am sharing the Hot Chocolate Ingredients used:
Milk: Whole cream milk and nothing but whole cream milk is required. There are recipes using heavy cream and milk in equal proportion or using only heavy cream. However this is the hot chocolate recipe using milk and it is totally rich and silky because of the use of chocolate. Use of cream in this hot chocolate recipe will make it too heavy. Therefore only milk has been used.
Cocoa Powder: Hot chocolate recipe calls for chocolate as the main ingredient. Little cocoa powder is added for some extra flavor. The hot beverage prepared in a similar way with cocoa powder as the main ingredients and without the use of chocolate is hot cocoa. The same has been discussed in the following headings.
Sugar: Well, this is totally optional and advisable only and only if you like your hot chocolate quite sweet, like me. I have added sugar at the initial stage of this recipe but you can skip it there and add it at the end after tasting the hot chocolate if there is a need. Also because the sweetness of hot chocolate also depends upon the kind of chocolate used and its sweetness!
Chocolate: I have used the dark compound chocolate. I had chopped the chocolate and added to the simmering milk. You can use chocolate chips instead. Also, you can melt the chocolate separately and add it to the milk.
Flavoring: As many are the hot chocolate recipes, that many are the ways to flavor and garnish it. I have used vanilla and salt to flavor it. Each ingredient really compliments the flavors of hot chocolate. You can flavor it with cinnamon, coffee, etc.
Garnish: I have garnished it with shredded chocolate. Marshmallows are the best and most popular way to garnish hot chocolate. You can also use chocolate sauce, caramel sauce, chocolate, choco chips, etc.
Hot cocoa is a combination of milk, cocoa powder, and sugar. Hot cocoa too can be flavored and garnished in a number of ways.
Hot chocolate calls for real chocolate whereas hot cocoa calls for cocoa powder. Hot cocoa is sweeter than hot chocolate. ON the other hand, hot chocolate is richer and more buttery than hot cocoa.
