Papdi Chaat

A crispy and flaky snack made with all-purpose flour, topped with silky yogurt, zinged with tamarind and coriander chutney, spiced with red chili powder and cumin seeds powder, with add on boiled potatoes, makes for a perfect snack called papdi chaat. Papdi chaat is one of the most famous snacks. As much as it is prepared in the households here, that much is available as a street food across. It is also known as dahi papdi chaat. Papdi chaat recipe is very simple and easy. It is under 10 minute’s thing if you have a few things ready. I always have the tamarind chutney and coriander chutney in my fridge, so it is super quick for me to fix this. Papdi chutney can be prepared as a starter or a snack. It is a must on the holi diwali menu.

Ingredients for Papdi Chaat Recipe

Papdi: Perfect flaky and crisp papdi do the most justice to papdi chaat. You can go for readymade papdi or make the same at home following the recipe given here.

Coriander Chutney: Perfect chutney can make everything delicious. You can make a lip-smacking green chutney following the recipe given here.

Tamarind Chutney: Basically a sweet cum tangy chutney is needed. You can make imli ki chutney or a khajoor chutney or amchur ki chutney.

Spices: The most basic spices required for any chaat are called for this papdi chaat recipe. You will need salt, red chili powder, roasted cumin seeds powder, etc.

Add ons: Boiled potatoes are indispensable for this recipe. Further fine sev has been used. Other than these you can also use sprouts, boiled chana, chopped onions,  chopped coriander leaves, etc.

Perfect papdi chaat is crisp, in spite of being dunked in sugar syrup. It has a perfect balance of flavors. And of course, it should taste delish. The following points should be kept in mind to make the perfect papdi chaat.

  1. Make sure to use perfect and fresh papdi. If the papdi is stale, the chaat tastes very bad.
  2. The balance of flavors should be maintained. And it depends upon person to person. Add the remaining ingredients accordingly.
  3. Serve the papdi chaat immediately.

1.This recipe makes 4 plates of papdi chaat.

2.In a plate, arrange 4 papdis.

3.Drizzle 2 tbsp of tamarind chutney on it.

4.Add approximately ¼ cup of yogurt (dahi). Followed by sliced boiled potatoes.

5.Add the spices i.e. salt to taste, ½ tsp roasted cumin seeds (jeera) powder, ¼ tsp red chili powder.

6.Next add green chutney approximately 1 tbsp of it.

7.Finish off with some sev.

8.Serve immediately. Bon appetite!
