Onion tomato chutney is simple dip /chutney which is very easy to make, calls for few ingredients, has subtle flavours, goes well with almost everything such as parathas, rice etc and is indispensable for South Indian delicacies such as idli, dosa etc. Onion tomato chutney recipe is an under 15 minute’s recipe and the best part is that it can be customised as per your taste.

As the name suggests the chutney is prepared mainly with onions and tomatoes. However, there is the number of possible variations of tomato chutney. From the “onion tomato ratio” till “to temper or not to temper” the tomato chutney recipe gives you choices at every stage. This is an easy onion chutney recipe which has been prepared with minimal ingredients. I have used onions and tomatoes in the same ratio, as per weight. Selection of correct tomatoes is critical for perfect tomato chutney. Use red and juicy tomatoes. Authentically whole red chillies are used to make Onion chutney; I have used Kashmiri red chilli powder. How To Make Onion Tomato Chutney

1. Heat 1 tbsp oil.

2. Add 1 tsp urad dal.

3. Cook on low flame till aromatic and golden.

4. Add 1 tsp Kashmiri red chilli powder. Cook on low flame for 30 seconds.

5. Add 2 chopped onions.

6. Cook till onions turn soft and translucent.

7. Add 2 chopped tomatoes.

8. Add salt to taste.

9. Cover and cook.

10. Till tomatoes turn mushy and soft.

11. Let the mixture cool down a little. Transfer to a grinder.

12. Grind to a smooth chutney.

13. Serve with idli sambar etc. Bon appétit.
