What is Lauki Poori?

Lauki Poori is a deep fried Indian flat bread flavored with spices like carom seeds etc. This is a healthy recipe of poori as it includes bottle gourd i.e. lauki which not only add nutrients to the pooris but also add flavour and texture. Poori, like any poori, can be served hot for breakfast or can be packed for kids’ tiffin. Apart from that pooris can be served with Indian gravies.

Let’s talk about the ingredients for poori

Poori calls for whole wheat flour, bottle gourd and some spices. Little oil is added while kneading the dough which makes the pooris soft.

How to Make Lauki Poori

1. Grate bottle gourd. Do not grate too thick or too fine

2. Squeeze grated lauki and put in a parat or in a big bowl

3. Now add 1 cup whole wheat flour, 1 tsp red chilli flakes, 1 tsp carom seeds (ajwain), 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, 1 tsp crushed fennel seeds (saunf) and salt to taste and mix well

4. Mix well and add 1 tbsp oil

5. Now add a handful chopped coriander leaves

6.Mix

7. Add water and knead a semi-stiff dough

8. Take a portion dough and make a smooth ball

9. Roll thicker than a chapati

10. Heat oil in a kadai for frying the Lauki poori

11.When the oil is become hot add a lauki poori

12. Let the poori come on the surface. Press with a perforated spoon (jhar)

13. Flip and fry

14. Till both, the sides are golden brown
