  • 2 tsp black peppercorns (sabut kali mirch)
  • 6 tsp red chilli powder
  • 4tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 4 tbsp dried pomegranate seeds (anaardana) powder
  • 2 tsp dry mango (amchur) powder

How to make Chana Masala Powder

1. Grind whole spices

Grind 4 bay leaves, 8 black cardamoms, 2-inch cinnamon stick and 2 tsp black peppercorns and 16-20 cloves.

2. Add other spices

Add 6 tsp red chilli powder, 4 tsp coriander powder, 2 tsp turmeric powder, 2 tsp dry mango powder, 4 tbsp pomegranate seeds.

P.S. I forgot to add red chili powder so I added it later.

Tip: Adding powdered spices to the ground whole spices help in mixing up all the spices. Also if you are making a small batch (for instance in the given pictures I am making just 1/4th of the recipe), by powdered spices will help in grinding the whole spices to a fine powder.

3. Bon appétit

Add 3-4 tbsp chana masala powder to prepare chana masala for 4 persons (approximately when you use 1 cup chickpeas). Do not add any other spices except salt. You can adjust the quantity as per your taste.

  • You can dry roast the whole spices and then grind them. Also, you can dry roast the chana masala powder once it is prepared. It gives good results.
