Boiled potatoes tempered with cumin seeds, cooked with spices and finished with coriander leaves, is jeera aloo. Jeera aloo is a very popular, spicy as well as tangy side dish. How much we relish the lunch comprising of jeera aloo, tadka dal, steamed rice, green chutney, and onion lachcha salad. Jeera aloo can also be served with parathas or pooris for breakfast or brunch.

Jeera aloo recipe is basically a combination of potatoes and spices. It calls for boiled potatoes. Whenever you use boiled potatoes for any recipes, keep in mind the following and you will always end up with a lip-smacking preparation.

How to make Jeera Aloo

1. Heat 2 tbsp oil.

2. Time to add cumin seeds. Keep the flame low and let cumin seeds splutter on low flame.

3. Next goes in 2 slit green chilies, 1-inch grated ginger and a big pinch of asafetida. Cook for 30 seconds on low flame.

4. Spices time; add 1 tsp red chili powder, 1 tsp roasted cumin seeds powder, 1 tsp dry mango (amchur) powder, 1 tsp coriander powder, and ¼ tsp turmeric powder.

5. Cook on low flame for 30 seconds.

6. Add in 4 boiled and cubed potatoes.

7. Mix well and cook for 5-7 minutes. Add in salt to taste.

8. Cook for another 10 minutes and switch off the flame. Finish off with some fresh coriander leaves.
