What is Homemade Chaat Masala?

A mix of spices that can pep up any dish! Chaat masala is a tangy spice powder made up of cumin seeds, dry mango powder, salt etc. Chaat masala is used in all the Indian chaat recipes. Apart from that, it can be used in gravies, drinks, salads, raitas etc.

There are plenty of recipes for chaat masala. But picked this one because it was the simplest of all, asking for very few and basic ingredients. And ever since am using this recipe I never felt the need to try any other. Chaat masala call for cumin seeds, dry mango powder, salt, and peppercorns! That’s it!! This recipe is more about the balance of flavors.

How to use Homemade Chaat Masala?

How To Make Chaat Masala Recipe

1. Heat a pan. Add ¼ cup cumin seeds. Dry roast them on a low to medium flame for 1-2 minutes or till aromatic.

2. Once roasted, take them out in a plate. Leave them for 5-10 minutes or till they cool down.

3. Put cumin seeds in a grinder jar. Add 2 tbsp pepper corns. Grind to a powder.

4. Pass the above mix through a sieve. Also add ¼ cup dry mango powder, 2 tbsp black salt, 1 tbsp salt and ¼ tsp asafetida. Mix all ingredients well.

5. Sprinkle chaat masala on appetisers, salads etc.
