My freezer always has a pack of frozen corn. The reason being sweet corns is my kids’ favorite. There are so many sweet corn recipes that can be prepared for their munching etc. Sweet corn recipes is a variety of maize that is tender and delish. Corn comes in different forms. On the cob, as a seed!  And therefore it is considered as a vegetable in some context and a cereal grain in others. In the market, you can find fresh corn, frozen corn or canned corn. Other than this corn flour, dried corn kernels are also available in the stores. It is used in many ways.

Uses of Corn

It is used as fuel as animal feed and of course in different food items. Corn can be eaten whole as sweet corn or popcorn or can be processed to make chips, tortillas, flour, oil, etc. These items are further used in different recipes and dishes.

Is corn healthy?

Corn is high on carbs and is a good source of vitamins and minerals. Corn is rich in fiber.  Not to miss it is gluten-free. People with gluten intolerance can consume corn. Corn is a good source of fiber. However, through processing the fiber gets lost. Therefore for best results corn should be consumed as a whole in the form of sweet corn, popcorn, etc. Refined corn oil, corn chips are not the best ways to add corn to your diet.

Who should not eat corn?

If you are diabetic, corn is not the right thing for you. Corn is high in starch and can, therefore, push up the blood sugar levels. Other than these, people who are watching their weight should avoid sweet corn as comparatively it has more calories and can hinder the weight loss program.
